The Letter G
Back in November, ABC Tapes distributed over 600 Coffee Tapes to guests at Memphis' annual Grind City Expo. We were sponsored and were partnered up with an artist for the event (the artwork you see here). The coffee was selected in order to showcase a general sense of advancements coffee in regard to gender equality, processing, and accessibility. That is what is featured here. I spoke with Daniel Lynn, Founder of GCX, about the creation of the event and his goals for it moving forward. A true advocate for the scene.
For Side B, I focus on expressing my gratitude for everyone who has been supportive of this project. It is something I would like to do more of on social channels. The music you hear was provided by Daniel Lynn as well.
This coffee was sourced by an import team who worked with over 800 women Guatemalan farmers spanning the coffee-growing regions of Huehuetenango and Baja Verapaz. What started as a micro-lot of about 2,000 lbs of coffee has blossomed into a platform that strongly addresses gender inequality in coffee.
Huehuetenango coffee is grown at heights up to 6,500 feet (2,000masl) in dry and frost-free conditions. By necessity, farmers in this highly remote area often set up their own mills along the many rivers to process their coffee
